Welcome to the CNR, Brian !

Brian Sachini has joined the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Italy in October 2020 as an Early Stage Researcher. In the framework of the ArtMoMa network, Brian will dedicate 3 years to the design, development and optimisation of light-driven supramolecular motors, while participating in international training and network events.

Tell us more about your background !

I studied chemistry in the University of Ioannina in Greece where I did my bachelor thesis in the group of Prof. Dr. Elemes. Afterwards, I moved to Berlin and obtained a Master’s degree from Freie Universität Berlin. During that time I performed research in the group of Prof. Heretsch and Prof. Müller working on total synthesis and catalysis respectively. I did my master thesis in the German Federal institute of Materials under the supervision of Dr. Resch-Genger where we embarked on the synthesis of Novel chromophopres for sensing applications. Later, I moved to Vienna and joined the institute of organics synthesis where I worked for a year on lipid A mimetics.

Why did you want to be a part of ArtMoMa?

I joined the world of supramolecular chemistry during my master thesis and I was immediately captivated. Since then I knew this is the field I want to do research in. ArtMoMa is a very prestigious program including pristine scientists from all over Europe. I believe this is a unique opportunity to perform cutting edge research and simultaneously be mentored from the leading scientists on the field. Additionally, I find fascinating the fact that the network brings together numerous partners thus allowing us to gain an insight in both industry and academia.

What are your expectations of living and working in your host city?

I am excited to join University of Bologna, a historic institution and the oldest university in the world. I am fascinated by Italian culture and verry happy to be able to experience it. I want to enjoy the famous Italian, food, architecture and hospitality.

What do you think will be your main challenge for you the next three years?

Since this is a challenging period it can be hard to take full advantage of the networking opportunities ArtMoMa provides. Additionally, I expect time management which is always essential in research to be difficult.
