Welcome to Bologna, Nina !

Nina Bukhtiiarova has joined the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in February 2021 as an Early Stage Researcher. In the framework of the ArtMoMa network, Nina will spend 3 years working on integration of molecular and supramolecular machines with lipid bilayers, while participating in international training and network events. Read the following introduction to learn more about her:

Tell us more about your background!

I am 24 years old and I was born and raised in Russia. I completed my undergraduate studies at Saint Petersburg State University with a specialization in Organic Chemistry, after which joining a master’s at ITMO University also in Saint Petersburg. During my MS studies, I was working at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, performing research in the field of Supramolecular Chemistry.

Why did you want to be a part of ArtMoMa?

Since I started working in the field of Supramolecular chemistry, I became truly fascinated with the concept of molecular machines. The ArtMoMa project seems to be a wonderful opportunity to dive into a world of fascinating research and to gain outstanding skills and knowledge. Being mentored by the greatest scientists and offering the greatest prospects, the ArtMoMa seems to be truly inspiring. I am genuinely excited to become a part of this network.

What are your expectations of living and working in your host city?

I have never been to Bologna before, but I feel like living here will be a nice experience for me, since the city is small and beautiful. Italian lifestyle seems to be quite similar to an Israeli one, hence I guess it will be pretty comfortable for me to integrate and enjoy living here. Additionally, I would really love to learn the Italian language. Understanding the language around seems to be essential to me, not to mention the fact that it sounds just beautiful.

What do you think will be your main challenge for you in the next three years?

My main issue of being a scientist is taking things too personally and getting hung up on details too much, even though I understand that things do happen in up and down way. Thus, I think it would be important to learn to stop and stare at the progress, rethink things, as well as to become more self-confident and independent.
